Deputy Principal’s Message

GROWTH

What an incredible year of growth and change it has been!

As I reflect on another year, I think about all the fun, joy, hard work and dedication our staff and students have put in. We have had many successes this year, both academic and social/emotional. Our growth has been remarkable, and we hope with the continued support of our families, we will continue to grow.

I am extremely proud to say we have included a lot more hands on experiences for our students in their learning programs. Foundation students were introduced to Developmental Play and Perceptual Motor Skills Programs this year. Student’s thoroughly enjoyed both programs which enhance group work, oral skills, motor skills and cognitive abilities. The transformation has been quite a delight to watch.

We have continued our enhancing incursion and excursion programs, which saw some students visiting the farm, Imax and Museum, community walks, CERES environment centre and many more. Camps have been the highlight for many of our students. Concerts and plays showcased some hidden talents. If you have seen the opportunities our students have had this year, then you will agree that, with your support, we are providing some wonderful opportunities for them to grow.

Students were encouraged to focus on ‘growing as a person’ when we introduced our Positive Behaviour Management System this year. We reflected on school rules together. We focused on building better relationships together. We challenged our mindsets. We focused on Restorative Practices to ensure we reflect and learn from our mistakes. We actively sought out learning opportunities. Above all, we accepted we are a creative work in progress, and will continue to work towards our common goals, values, mission and vision.

Congratulations to all of our students for concluding the 2017 academic year here at Sirius College Eastmeadows, and a big well done to all who have achieved awards.

As I bid farewell to our Grade 6 students who have graduated from Primary School, I hope they continue to use their growth mindset in their future endeavours and wish them the absolute best in high school!

Thank you to all our amazing teachers and staff, volunteers, Primary Parents Club and students for their positive influence on our community. Together we grow.

I look forward to welcoming you all back, bright and fresh in 2018.

Have a safe and restful holiday.
